Material reutilization starts by designing our products with the next life cycle in mind. The Cradle to Cradle philosophy complements a circular economy and uses two types of ingredients - biological nutrients and technical nutrients. This is the core of Cradle to Cradle design.

BIOLOGICAL NUTRIENTS:Nutrients that come from the earth and go back to the earth causing no harm and sometimes making it better – like plants.

TECHNICAL NUTRIENTS:Minerals and other resources that can’t go back into the earth, but are endlessly recyclable through industry.

Shaw Contract designs products made with materials that can safely return to nature or industry. We are the largest collector and recycler of post-consumer carpet in the world - more than all of our competitors combined. We reclaim and recycle an average of 100 million pounds (45 million kilograms) of post consumer carpet per year leading the industry with more than 800 million pounds (360 million kilograms) recycled since 2006.

We’ve helped clients like Allied International Credit, Bank of America, and DIRECTV reach their recycling goals.

I think it's really important for our children to know that there's a world of abundance ahead of them, not just a world of limits. We’re actually giving a gift to the future. We're increasing the opportunity for next generation to celebrate the same things we can.

-William McDonough

We are every bit as passionate about social responsibility as we are about the design of our products. We help make the world a better place, from charitable donations and scholarship funding to support of design summits and immersive research projects that improve health and economic outcomes.
