We are every bit as passionate about social responsibility as we are about the design of our products. We help make the world a better place, from charitable donations and scholarship funding to support of design summits and immersive research projects that improve health and economic outcomes.

Sustainable Business Practices

Shaw validates our supplier selection to ensure that suppliers are aligned with our high standards as well as our sustainability principles and goals, which translate globally. Our clients can trust that our products are made in a safe environment by workers who are paid a fair wage and treated in a socially responsible manner.

Shaw has a commitment to sustainable work spaces, with many of our buildings designed for LEED Certification. A few examples include:

  • Our latest state-of-the art carpet tile manufacturing plant in Nantong, China - LEED Silver Certification
  • Shaw Contract Atlanta and Shanghai showrooms - LEED Gold Certification
  • Hub 33, our London showroom - Silver certification from Ska Rating
  • Create Centre - LEED Silver

At Shaw Contract, we believe in leveraging strengths for monumental impact, and collaboration is a core principle fueling our partnerships. We remain committed to creating positive impact and supporting efforts which push the boundaries of design, including the organizations below:

Shaw Contract is a founding contributor to MASS Lab research initiative. The MASS Lab fuels the development of research and training programs that filter into architecture and policy projects worldwide. Ideas from the MASS Lab were used to design a new hospital in the Butaro District of Rwanda. With the main goal of reducing the transmission of airborne disease this hospital now services a population of more than 340,000 who had no previous access to healthcare in their community. In addition, Shaw Contract provided flooring for the Boston Healthcare for the Homeless at Mass General Hospital project.

Shaw Contract has been a long time supporter of DIFFA, sponsoring national events and participating in local chapter activities. From sponsoring events like Dining for Design to the Illumination Ball, our associates participate in fundraising activities contributing to the $41 million USD granted by DIFFA to AIDS service organizations nationwide.

Panels for Progress

Shaw partnered with Panels for Progress in 2013 to help bring solar power to an orphanage in Thailand, reducing its electricity costs so more resources can be directed to the community. This orphanage is part of the Not for Sale Campaign, a nonprofit organization that protects people and communities around the world from modern day slavery and human trafficking.

Public Architecture

Shaw Contract donates one percent of all sales from our Homage collection to Public Architecture’s The 1+ program. The 1+ program (formerly 1%) provides $42 million USD annually in pro-bono architecture and design services. The nonprofit facilitates further social changes through its annual Design Access Summit, born out of necessity for true collaboration between the design and social sectors. The summit provides a forum to discuss and create positive change through the built environment.

Make it Right

One of the first partners in the effort, Shaw signed on to support the Foundation’s very first project, committing flooring for the 150 new homes in the New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward rebuilding endeavor following Hurricane Katrina. Now housing more than 350 people, 100 of the homes have been built, and all completed homes have earned LEED Platinum certification. Additional flooring for 50 homes has been donated for projects in the Kansas City Manheim Park neighborhood.

IIDA Foundation

As part of Shaw Contract’s commitment to a more sustainable future, we are proud to sponsor the IIDA Foundation Sustainable Design Education Fund which helps students and professionals pursue their LEED Accreditation. We believe that what we circulate matters. We are proud to work with partners at IIDA to help coach and develop the designers that will shape our future.
