Environmental Product Declaration

Shaw Contract has completed EPD®s for all EcoWorx carpet tile products. These products contribute to the Materials and Resources: Building Product Disclosure & Optimization - Environmental Product Declarations credit in LEED v4.

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD®) provides a standardized way to communicate transparent and comparable information about the life-cycle environmental impact of products. It measures a product's impact on global warming, ozone depletion, water pollution, smog creation, acid rain and primary energy demand.

Manufacturers use the results of a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) to understand the environmental impacts and where they occur. This process helps inform product design, innovation and process improvement from a manufacturing standpoint.

EPD®s utilize Product Category Rules (PCRs) specific to each product type, which means you can’t compare an EPD® for a chair to an EPD® for carpet. There may also be separate PCRs for different regions of the world. For example, you also can’t compare a carpet tile with an American EPD® with a carpet tile with a European EPD®. EPD®’s are independently verified by one of several organizations including:

  • UL/Underwriters Laboratory
  • NSF International
  • SCS Global Services
